The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) released a new digital ad slamming Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) for voting against the Working Families Tax Cut and "prioritizing free healthcare for illegal aliens."
How does this issue pertain to Sen. Ossoff’s candidacy? The NRSC is pushing this issue to demonstrate Sen. Ossoff's unreliability as a senator and the reliability of his Republican challenger, Representative Mike Collins (R-GA), whom he will face off against in November.
Rep. Collins openly championed the Working Families Tax Cut, which cuts taxes on Social Security, tips, and overtime payments. The initiative also prevented a tax increase and expanded access to the Pell Grant, ensuring that students can continue to pursue their trades.
What does the ad have to say?
- “Under Joe Biden, Democrats let in millions of illegal immigrants, straining resources and putting communities at risk. And Jon Ossoff chose them over you, voting to increase taxes on working-class families by $250 per month to give free health care to illegal immigrants.”
- “Dangerous criminals got the benefits you earned. And now John Ossoff wants your vote again. No way. Reject Jon Ossoff and put Georgia first.”
NRSC Press Secretary Nick Puglia in an official statement:
- “After voting for the Biden-Harris administration’s reckless spending that sent inflation to 9%, Jon Ossoff is fighting to tax Georgians’ tips, overtime, and Social Security. While Ossoff wants to raise taxes and protect criminal illegals, Mike Collins is putting Georgians and their pocketbooks first.”
Context: The Working Families Tax Cut consists of several provisions found in the One Big Beautiful Bill that President Trump signed into law last year.
Support for the bill fell largely along party lines, with Republicans supporting it and Democrats opposing it. Sen. Ossoff was no exception.
The NRSC sees the incumbent Senator as a vulnerable candidate and will continue to advocate against his reelection. New digital ads will likely release, but focusing on issues like immigration and woke ideology
