Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) held a major campaign rally in Savannah, Georgia, over the weekend and faced fierce criticism from his Republican opponents, including the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
What was this rally for? The Senator is mobilizing support ahead of November’s general election, in which he will face off against Representative Mike Collins (R-GA), who handily won his recent runoff election.
What key figures are saying:
- Sen. Ossoff on Rep. Collins and President Trump: “Donald Trump and his puppet Mike Collins, they doubled health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians and threw 300,000 Georgians off their insurance altogether… I never want to hear these two pretend they give a damn about working people again. Because while hundreds of thousands of Georgians lose their health care, Mike Collins builds Trump a ballroom.”
- Rep. Collins Posting to X: “I went to Washington and got to work for Georgians, delivering just like I have in the private sector. Weak and woke Jon Ossoff delivered for his California and New York donors, making Georgians’ lives more expensive and less safe. The choice is clear.”
- NRSC Press Secretary Nick Puglia on Sen. Ossoff’s Candidacy: “Jon Ossoff is a radical leftist who puts himself above Georgians' needs, and the Ossoff-Bottoms agenda of raising taxes, defunding the police and protecting criminal illegals like Laken Riley's killer will be rejected. From rural healthcare to veterans and the 'Epstein Class,' Jon Ossoff can't stop lying to Georgians to deflect from his own failures. Ossoff is nothing but a rubber-stamp for the liberal billionaires bankrolling his campaign.”
Context: While delivering remarks, Sen. Ossoff went on the offensive against Rep. Collins and is beginning to frame him as the "puppet" candidate. Because of this, the Senator regards his Republican opponent as nothing more than a mouthpiece for the President.
The NRSC didn’t take this lightly and thoroughly criticized Ossoff for his congressional record. They also took a similar strategy by framing him as useful for "liberal billionaires" who don’t even reside in the State of Georgia.
