Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) recently came out against Senatorial Candidate Graham Platner for his history of abuse and disturbing behavior. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) has yet to make a statement.
Who is Graham Platner? Platner is the democratic frontrunner in the race for U.S. Senate in Maine and is looking to challenge longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins (R-ME).
What lawmakers and commentators are saying:
- Sen. Warnock: “These allegations are deeply concerning. And I think the people of Maine deserve answers. And this kind of abuse is something to be taken very, very seriously.”
- Senator John Fetterman (D-PA): "The thing he has going for him is the [list of controversies is] so long, you lose count of all the things. Every other day, there's a new one."
- Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX): “James Talarico and Graham Platner would vote identically in the Senate. Both are creatures of the hard left that would back open borders, radical gender ideology, and the same Marxist agenda.”
- National Republican Senatorial Committee Press Secretary Nick Puglia: "Jon Ossoff's silence on Graham Platner once again proves Ossoff is a spineless coward who puts the radical left over Georgians."
Context: Platner faces extraordinary pressure from both sides of the aisle over his disturbing history of allegations.
Allegations from at least three women reinforce a disturbing pattern of abuse, disrespect for women, and a history of glorifying violence like rape and murder.
Platner has also openly bragged about illicit behavior in public restrooms and admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to multiple women as a married man.
Given the controversy surrounding Platner's history, critics are questioning why Sen. Ossoff has yet to issue a statement. On his campaign website, the Ossoff campaign highlights his time as an investigative journalist who "exposed serious crimes including human trafficking" and "sexual slavery."
