Georgia Republicans united today to honor the life and memory of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, one year after his assassination. The co-founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while hosting an event at Utah Valley University.
How is Charlie Kirk being honored and celebrated? The activist is being remembered as someone who inspired a generation of young people to think freely and engage with each other in good faith.
Key leaders are also calling on everyone to pray for Kirk’s family and remember his mission as political tensions continue to rise. They also firmly disavowed political violence in all its forms.
What key figures had to say:
- Representative Mike Collins (R-GA): “It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. Charlie inspired a generation to find their voice and continues to be an irreplaceable force in our conservative movement. I’m praying especially for Erika and their children today, along with the entire TPUSA family. Charlie is incredibly missed.”
- Representative Rich McCormick (R-GA): “Today, we remember Charlie, pray for Erika and their children, and honor the legacy he left behind. May we never accept violence as the answer to political disagreement, and may we always defend every American’s right to speak freely without fear.”
- Republican Candidate for Governor Rick Jackson: “One year ago today, Charlie Kirk lost his life in a heinous and evil act of political violence. Peaceful disagreement and debate are hallmarks of our country; political violence is not and has no place here. Our prayers are with Charlie's family, friends, and loved ones on this painful day.”
- Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA): “A year ago today, we witnessed a display of the worst kind of political violence in the killing of Charlie Kirk. May his memory remind us all to disagree respectfully, to love thy neighbor, and to cherish our families, knowing we are all created and loved by God.”
Further Context: The murder suspect in Kirk’s assassination, Tyler Robinson, pleaded not guilty just a few weeks ago. Robinson is charged with aggravated murder, which is a capital offense in the state of Utah.
