Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) is praising the State Senate’s passage of House Bill (HB) 1000, a bill that now heads to Governor Brian Kemp's (R-GA) desk.
Lt. Gov. Jones praised the Senate for collaborating with his initiative to cut income taxes yearly. He thanked the Governor and House Speaker for their contributions as well.
“HB 1000 will return over $1 billion to Georgia’s hardworking taxpayers in the coming months,” Lt. Gov. Jones explained. “I want to thank Governor Brian Kemp and Speaker Jon Burns for their partnership in cutting taxes and returning billions of dollars to Georgia taxpayers over the past four years.”
HB 1000
HB 1000 provides a one-time income tax rebate for taxpayers who filed timely income tax returns for both 2024 and 2025. It also provides refunds of $250 for a single taxpayer or a married taxpayer filing separately, $375 for a head of household, and $500 for a married couple filing jointly.
Nonresident aliens, estates, trusts, and individuals claimed as dependents on another person’s 2024 tax return are excluded from these rebates.
The Georgia Department of Revenue will distribute these rebates automatically once the 2025 tax return is filed, and taxpayers won’t need to take additional action to claim them.
Payments will be sent via electronic transmission or check based on the return’s instructions. If a taxpayer has outstanding liabilities at the time of issuance, the refund will first be applied to these debts.
HB 1000 was originally authored by Representative Matthew Gambill (R-Cartersville) and carried in the Senate by Senator Bo Hatchett (R-Cornelia). The program is expected to cost between $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion.
