In a brief comment made to Dome Politics, Representative Rich McCormick (R-GA07) assured Americans that everything related to Greenland will work out perfectly. While many lawmakers worry about growing tensions with European leaders regarding President Trump's push to acquire Greenland, the Georgia representative seems quite calm about the whole ordeal.
When asked about the issue, Rep. McCormick responded, “Everything’s going to work out perfectly. Everything’s going to be amazing. We will not invade Greenland.”
After dissolving the idea of a possible invasion, the representative then expressed his hope in a possible deal between the Trump Administration, the country of Denmark, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
He stated, “I hope we come to some sort of deal so that at least our permanent influence in that region is stabilized, so that we can have the strategic security that we need in the Western hemisphere, especially in the Arctic region.”
McCormick’s statement highlights a real concern for the Trump Administration, which sees Greenland as an asset for enhancing national security. The more control the Administration has over Greenland, the more it can guarantee security and the potential for more trade routes.
Greenland is also home to a plethora of valuable minerals and has been approached by both China and Russia. To President Trump, this is simply unacceptable and just makes annexing Greenland more appealing.
McCormick's hope seems to have been realized after the president announced via Truth Social that he had met with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte. Apparently, they collaborated to form the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and the entire Arctic region.
The president explained that this will be a great deal for the U.S. and all NATO nations, and he would refrain from levying tariffs scheduled for February.
