Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) is pushing for Congress to pass bills that codify DOGE’s cuts. Codifying DOGE’s policies would make it harder for any future president to reverse them through executive order. Most of the cuts so far have come through executive order.
This initiative from Greene comes after Musk held a meeting with DOGE team members and Jesse Waters of Fox News. The DOGE team found that the Taliban was receiving $55 million a year from Congress.
The Taliban received enough funding to pay for weapons shipments and private jets. On top of this, the chief accountant of the federal agency in question deleted over a terabyte of accounting records.
Fortunately, the DOGE team was able to recover the data. Greene responded to this news by calling for legislation to defund the Taliban permanently.
Greene went on to state that this is the best time for the Republican Party to implement government cuts. Musk has given the party a chance to implement their promises to cut wasteful spending. If they don’t go ahead with it, the voters might think twice about re-electing them.
Finally, Greene discussed the possible introduction of a DOGE bill coming soon. Reportedly, the bill targets foreign aid and funding received by NPR and CPB.
Greene has not seen the bill and has only heard about it. She reiterated how she wants to codify DOGE cuts every single week. It would be the most efficient way to cut down on government spending.
Greene concluded, “As a country, we cannot survive our national debt and honestly, we may be past the point of return. We should be aggressively attacking our debt and aggressively, cutting all waste fraud, and abuse and unnecessary programs.“
Even though Elon Musk has largely retreated from the public eye, DOGE continues to move forward. With support form outspoken lawmakers like Marjorie Taylor Greene, it is expected to continue cutting funding and publicizing its findings.
