The Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 and 2026 budgets include much-needed support for Georgia veterans. The new funding is allocated towards therapy and living quarters. In response, State Sen. Rick Williams made a statement praising the new financing as necessary.

For FY 2025, $2 million has been allocated to open a new Sub-Acute Therapy Unit in the Georgia War Veterans Home. This new therapy unit is used to offer specialized treatment for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

For FY 2026, $2.12 million has been allocated to the Georgia War Veterans Home to increase operational capacity.

For clarity, the Georgia War Veterans Home is a skilled nursing care facility located in Milledgeville. The staff specializes in caring for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

In total, this funding will strengthen the operational capacity of the facility. It is important because it has not received this kind of support in recent years.

Sen. Williams stated that this funding is a reflection of Georgia's values and commitment to veterans. He also celebrated the fact that funding made it through the legislative process without being cut at all.

“These investments directly reflect our commitment to those who served our country,” said Sen. Williams. “We are ensuring that veterans in Georgia have access to the medical treatment, mental health care, and support services they deserve.”

Williams continued, “ I’m proud to report that this funding came through the amended budget without a single cut, a testament to how seriously we take our responsibility to our veterans.”

As a representative from Milledgeville, Williams took this issue seriously. Securing this funding meant securing the community he represents.

“The Georgia War Veterans Home has long been a pillar of care for our state’s heroes,” Sen. Williams concluded. “This budget ensures it can remain that way for years to come.”
