Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) has introduced two new bills into the House. The first is House resolution (HR) 1399, also known as the Protect Children’s Innocence Act. The second is HR 1862, also known as the English Language Unity Act.
First, HR 1399 places restrictions on the provision of gender affirming care. Essentially, the bill makes it a felony to perform any gender affirming care on a minor.
HR 1399 also permits a minor on whom care is performed to bring a civil action against each individual who provided it. The bill does not stop there though.
It also prohibits the use of federal funds for gender affirming care or for health insurance that covers such care. Additionally, plans that include coverage for such care are not eligible for federal subsidies.
The final portion of the bill addresses higher education and non-U.S. nationals. It prohibits institutions of higher education from offering instruction in gender affirming care. It also declares that any non-U.S. national who performs such care may be subject to deportation.
Greene took to X to advocate for the bill and advertise its introduction. She stated, “No child should be making an irreversible decision that will prevent them from ever receiving the blessing of becoming a mother or father before they are even old enough to vote.”
Second, HR 1862 declares English as the official language of the United States. The bill also establishes a uniform English language rule for naturalization.
Greene took to X to express why the bill is so important for protecting American identity. She also pointed out that the bill had already been endorsed by President Trump. She pointed out that it is only a matter of congress getting it to his desk.
Greene stated, “The language of our Founding Fathers was English. The language of our Constitution is English. The language of the American people is English. One nation. One language. One identity. My English Language Unity Act protects our national unity, defends our sovereignty, and preserves the American way of life.”
