Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Director, Candice Broce, is fiercely criticizing Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) for using foster care children as "political pawns" in his first major campaign advertisement.

What is Sen. Ossoff’s ad claiming? The ad titled “Our Kids” claims that the Senator took action to investigate Georgia’s foster care system for sex trafficking and pass a law to permanently address it.

However, Director Broce has contradicted this claim, stating that Sen. Ossoff is “nowhere to be found” and is simply taking credit.

What key figures are saying:

  • Director Candice Broce: “For five years, I’ve been in the trenches fighting for vulnerable children and foster care reform alongside thousands of DFCS workers. Trust us when we say Jon Ossoff is nowhere to be found.”
  • Ossoff for Senate Spokesperson: “But while Sen. Ossoff led oversight, passed an anti-trafficking law, and helped save foster care funding President Trump cut, unqualified partisan hack Broce whines it’s Senator Ossoff’s job to fix the state agency she leads.”
  • Nick Puglia, Press Secretary for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC): “Jon Ossoff will say or do anything to advance his political ambitions and distract from his own failures, even if it means using Georgia's foster kids and veterans as political pawns.”
  • Representative Mike Collins (R-GA): “Jon Ossoff is a complete fraud. In his very first campaign ad, he got caught using foster kids to score political points. Now he’s getting called out. What else will he lie about?”

Further Context: What should have been an easy win for Sen. Ossoff has now turned into a controversy. The Campaign likely saw this ad as an easy way to win over Georgians unsure of the Senator’s reputation. Now, it’s become a point of contention.

Rep. Collins, the Senator’s Republican challenger, weighed in on X, calling him a “complete fraud” and accusing him of using foster children to “score political points.”

NRSC Press Secretary Nick Puglia issued a similar statement, accusing Sen. Ossoff of saying or doing whatever it takes to advance his own ambitions. According to Puglia, there is no line the Senator won’t cross.
