Representative Mike Collins (R-GA) secured the Republican nomination to run for U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) in yesterday’s runoff elections.
By how much did Rep. Collins win? The Trump endorsee secured victory against political outsider Derek Dooley, winning 55% of the vote with Dooley pulling 45%.

- Derek Dooley: “While tonight wasn’t the result we were hoping for, I’m incredibly proud of the campaign we built and thankful for the hundreds of thousands of Georgians who put their trust in me. To every Georgian who supported us, attended a campaign stop, donated their time and money, or cast their vote for me at the ballot box – I want to thank you. Since Day 1, this campaign was never about me. It was about the people of Georgia and the leadership they deserve in the U.S. Senate.”
- Sen. Ossoff: “Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate Mike Collins is a notorious bigot, antisemite, and extremist currently under federal investigation for the illegal misuse of tax dollars. Collins, who is only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman, voted to double health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians, for the Iran War, and for the Trump tariffs.”
Context: The result from yesterday’s runoff elections wasn’t too different from May’s primary election. In that race, Collins took a strong lead with 41% of the vote, and Dooley followed up with 30%.
From the most recent result, it appears that Collins managed to maintain a ten-point lead, despite Dooley’s best efforts to catch up.
Sen. Ossoff was prepared to lambast either candidate, however, and wasted no time issuing the statement shown above. According to him, the Republican nominee doesn’t amount to much of a candidate.
In his victory speech, Collins refused to hold back as well, lambasting the Senator for being an “out-of-touch far left liberal” who’s only been successful at making life more difficult for Georgians.
