The House of Representatives recently convened to pass more bills on rogue judges and voter registration. These bills were passed around the same time as the new Senate amended budget.

The first bill was House Resolution (HR) 1526, also known as the No Rogue Rulings Act. In a nutshell, the bill limits the authority of federal district courts to issue injunctions.

This bill comes as a response to district court judges interfering with the President’s deportation orders.

Specifically, HR 1526 prohibits a district court from issuing an injunction unless the injunction applies only to the parties of the particular case before the court.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) commented on the bill on X. He described the bill as an attempt to maintain checks and balances.

Johnson stated, “Today the House will vote to keep federal judges in their constitutional lane. No one single activist judge should be able to issue a nationwide injunction to stop a president's policies.”

The second bill was HR 22, also known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This bill requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

Specifically, the bill prohibits states from accepting and processing an application to register to vote in a federal election, unless the applicant presents documentary proof of U.S. citizenship.

This bill comes as an attempt to properly codify regulation that has been in place, but only at the state level.

Johnson commented that HR 22 will ensure that only American citizens can vote in American elections. He went on to attack Democrats who voted against the bill as going against the interests of the American people.

Johnson stated, “While 208 Democrats demonstrated that they believe non-American citizens should vote in federal elections, (House Republicans) stood united with the millions of legal American voters who want their voices heard – and protected – at the ballot box.”
