Colombian President Caves After Trump Threatens Tariffs Over Illegal Immigration
Colombia's Socialist President Gustavo Petro felt the wrath of the new American administration this past weekend, when President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs against his country for refusing to allow a couple of U.S. planes full of Colombian illegal aliens to land.
Upon the refusal to repatriate the illegal aliens back to Colombia, President Trump threatened Colombia with tariffs, causing Petro to buckle and bend the knee, allowing all Colombians in the U.S., who get deported, to reenter the country.
“We have overcome the impasse with the United States government,” stated Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo. “We will continue to receive Colombians who return as deportees, guaranteeing them decent conditions as citizens subject to rights.”
In a press release, White House Press Secretary Karoline Kleavitt said that the South American country “agreed to all of President Trump’s terms”, including “unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia."
Even as Colombia agreed to the Trump administration's terms, those tariffs and sanctions will sit in waiting and ready to be implemented, if Colombia renege on the agreement.
Meanwhile, President Trump enjoyed golf at his Doral hotel in Miami.
