Democrats came out strong in the recent midterm elections across the country, and Georgia proved to be no exception.

Democratic candidates won every major statewide office, including Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Lieutenant Governor.

Who will be Georgia’s next Lt. Governor? The Democratic candidate, State Senator Josh McLaurin (D-14), defeated the Republican candidate, State Senator Greg Dolezal (R-27), by earning 56% of the vote.

Sen. Dolezal earned 44% but had no issue reaching out to Sen. McLaurin to congratulate him on his victory. Via his official X, he shared:

  • “Tonight, I called Josh McLaurin to congratulate him on his victory and wish him well as he prepares to serve Georgia.
  • “I still believe Georgia’s greatest days are ahead. The principles that brought me into public service haven’t changed, and neither has my desire to make a difference. I don’t know what the next chapter holds, but I know the author.”

Who will be Georgia’s next Attorney General? The Democratic candidate, State Representative Tanya Miller (D-62), defeated the Republican candidate, State Senator Brian Strickland (R-42), with 55.5% of the vote.

Sen. Strickland earned 44.5% but had no problem conceding victory and expressing his gratitude for being able to serve Georgia. He shared via his official X:

  • “While this race didn’t go my way, this race was never about me. Georgia is always worth fighting for, and I look forward to continuing to find ways to serve my state and community as we move forward.”

Who will be Georgia’s next Secretary of State? The Democratic candidate, Judge Penny Brown Reynolds, defeated the Republican candidate, State Representative Tim Fleming (R-114), with 55.7% of the vote. Rep. Fleming fell behind by more than ten points, earning 44.3%.

What about Georgia’s other races? Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper (R-GA) lost his reelection bid to Democrat Katherine Juhan-Arnold, earning only 46% to Juhan-Arnold’s 54%.

Labor Commissioner Barbera Rivera Holmes (R-GA) lost her reelection bid to Democrat Nikki Porcher, earning only 45% to Porcher’s 55%.

School Superintendent Richard Woods (R-GA) lost his reelection bid to Democrat Lydia Powell, earning only 45% to Powell’s 55%.
