Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper recently announced that the Georgia Hurricane Helene Block Grant has calculated award amounts for all traditional agricultural commodities and will begin sending funding agreements to applicants.
What will the awards cover for Georgia farmers? The Agriculture Department will issue agreements to approved applicants that detail their award amounts and explain how funding decisions were calculated.
The agreements will cover Hurricane Helene-related losses involving infrastructure, poultry, beef cattle, dairy cattle, milk loss, dairy feed loss, pecans, blueberries, citrus, nursery operations, plasticulture, and bare-ground practices.
What Commissioner Tyler J. Harper had to say:
- “I’m proud to announce that producers who submitted an application for relief through Georgia’s Hurricane Helene Block Grant received their award notifications via email this morning.
- “I’m encouraging applicants to be on the lookout and submit their signed contracts as quickly as possible, so we can begin distributing relief funds.
- “Our team has invested thousands of hours to individually review and cure each application ensure eligible producers get 100% of what they’re entitled to because that is the level of service Georgia farmers deserve.
- “Our department will continue to support Georgia farm families throughout every step of their road to recovery.”
Have any industries been left out of this process? Timber applications, which are more complex in nature, remain under review as they require additional time for thorough evaluation.
Recognizing the importance of this assistance to Georgia’s timber producers, the Agriculture Department has redirected its resources to prioritize the review and processing of these applications, with the goal of reaching a resolution as quickly as possible.
This morning, most producers who applied for relief for damage to agricultural commodities and/or infrastructure through the Georgia Hurricane Helene Block Grant received their award notifications and contracts via email.
Timber applications are more complex and are still under review at this time.
If you submitted a timber only application, it is still being reviewed.
If you submitted a mixed agriculture and timber application, the award notification and contract you received this morning is for the agriculture portion of your application only. The timber portion of your application is still under review, and you will receive another notification and contract once the review has been completed.
