Representative Mike Collins (R-GA) and Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) faced off yesterday in a debate over who should represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate. The two candidates clashed over immigration, tariffs, President Donald Trump, and personal disputes.

How did the two candidates open for this debate? Sen. Ossoff opened the debate by highlighting notable accomplishments like capping the cost of insulin, then shifted to scathing criticism of his opponent. He stated:

  • “He's sold out Georgia in his pathetic, childlike devotion to Donald Trump, voting for the tariffs that have sent groceries soaring, voting for the health care cuts that have doubled your insurance premiums, and voting for the war that sent diesel to its record high.”

In his opening statement, Rep. Collins took a similar approach by first expressing gratitude for the state of Georgia and all the opportunities it has granted him. He then stated:

  • “My opponent is a radical. He has left our state less safe, more expensive, and worse off. He’s an extremist who’s voted for men to go into girls’ sports. He’s opposed the forgotten men and women who just want to keep more of their tips, their overtime, and their Social Security.”

Was there a notable moment for Sen. Jon Ossoff? When asked about Georgia’s voting rules and election security, Sen. Ossoff took the opportunity to accuse Rep. Collins of extremism. He stated:

  • “Mike Collins is attacking your voting rights. But that's not a surprise when you consider who Mike Collins is… If John Lewis were marching today from Selma to Montgomery, Mike Collins would be grabbing a billy club.”

Was there a notable moment for Rep. Mike Collins? When asked about data centers, Rep. Collins took the opportunity to call out his opponent for receiving support from billionaire Reid Hoffman, a known associate of Jeffrey Epstein. He stated:

  • “One of his mega donors is data center billionaire Reid Hoffman, one of Epstein’s buddies out there. [Sen. Ossoff] has got to answer to those people. He doesn’t have to answer to local people.”

Official Statement from the National Republican Senatorial Committee:

  • Via NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia: “Jon Ossoff is a socialist who wants open borders, men in women's sports, and higher taxes on hardworking families to give government benefits to illegals. Ossoff is radically out of step with Georgia.”
