Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) is backing the Trump administration's latest efforts to lower prescription drug costs as a part of his broader focus on making health care more affordable for Georgia residents.
The push comes as the Trump administration announced on Monday new drug-pricing agreements with major pharmaceutical companies, including CSL and Astellas. The agreement aims to reduce drug costs drastically, with participating companies involved pledging to provide Medicaid recipients the lowest prices tied to the prices paid for drugs in other developed countries.
In a post on X on Monday, Carter highlighted the President’s “America First” approach to health care, claiming that the administration’s policies are lowering drug prices and prioritizing patients.
“Trump RX, which gives people the opportunity to get deep discounts on prescriptions, that’s very important and has helped people to get these coupons to be able to get a lower price on these drugs,” Carter said. “[He’s] making sure he’s putting America first, and I applaud that and the administration for this.”
Trump RX is part of the administration’s wider effort to lower the cost of prescription drug options for patients.
Rep. Carter has also recently focused on health care in rural communities in Georgia in collaboration with the White House. Last week, Carter announced new federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services in Baxley to support healthcare providers and the workforce in South Georgia.
“Every Georgian deserves access to quality health care, no matter their ZIP code,” Rep. Carter said. “I know how critical our rural health care providers are to the communities they serve.”
The Trump administration estimates that its health care and drug policies could save up to $64.3 billion, while Carter’s focus on supporting rural communities in Georgia to lower their prescription costs aims to further reduce the rising prices of health care in America.
