Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is backing Michigan’s Democratic senatorial nominee, Abdul El-Sayed, a democratic socialist candidate who has been called antisemitic and a "terrorist sympathizer."

How has Abdul El-Sayed gained a reputation for antisemitism? The Democratic candidate has gained this reputation by staunchly opposing the State of Israel and supporting Palestinian resistance.

During an appearance on CNN, he was asked if Israel had a right to exist. In response, he stated:

  • “Now the question about a right to exist is interesting because nobody's ever asked me whether or not I believe Palestine has a right to exist. Israel exists. The question is whether or not we want a politics where our money is sent over to Israel to do genocide and apartheid, instead of investing in our own kids.”

How has Abdul El-Sayed sympathized with terrorists? In opposing the State of Israel, the Democratic candidate has openly defended radical groups like Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Critics cite when he released a fundraising email on the second anniversary of the 10/7 massacre and slammed Israel for a "ground invasion of Gaza" without mentioning the murder of over 1,200 Israelis by Hamas.

What the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) had to say:

  • Through X: “Democrats have chosen the most radical Senate candidate in America: Abdul El-Sayed. He has shown us who he is – an extreme socialist who is dangerous and wrong for Michigan.”
  • Through Press Secretary Nick Puglia: “This is who [Sen. Ossoff] just backed. A terrorist sympathizer who doesn't believe Israel has the right to exist. Who pledged his support to the Muslim Brotherhood. Who refuses to say the world is better off with the Ayatollah dead. And thinks America deserved 9/11.”

Why would Sen. Ossoff back this candidate? Without an official statement from the Ossoff Campaign, it’s difficult to decipher why exactly he would pledge his support.

This isn’t likely to be clarified, however, as the Ossoff Campaign never issued an official statement on Maine’s similarly controversial Democratic frontrunner, Graham Platner.
