Representative Brian Jack (R-GA) recently visited the Atlanta Regional Airport – also known as Falcon Field – to celebrate a federal investment in a new air traffic control tower, which is expected to become operational in 2028.
Where did this funding come from? This funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
It is distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Terminal Program, a competitive grant program launched by the IIJA to upgrade airport terminals and air traffic control towers.
What key figures are saying:
- Rep. Brian Jack: “Atlanta Regional Airport is one of the best airports for general aviation in the country, and I am proud to be its champion in Congress. Also known as Falcon Field, this airport has long been a catalyst for economic growth in my hometown of Peachtree City, and this investment from our federal government will improve safety, optimize operational efficiency, and create jobs across Fayette County and Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District.”
- Falcon Field Director Hope Macaluso: “This investment represents a major milestone for Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field and the communities we serve. The new air traffic control tower will significantly improve operational capabilities and position Falcon Field to better meet aviation demands while continuing to serve as an economic engine for our region.”
- Continued: “We are especially grateful to Congressman Brian Jack for his efforts in advocating for this important project. His support was instrumental in helping bring this critical infrastructure investment to our community. This funding will have lasting benefits for aviation safety, economic growth, and regional connectivity for decades to come.”
Further Context: The $10 million figure is the combined total of two separate grants awarded over two fiscal years to bring the new air traffic control tower from planning to reality.
$1 million was awarded for the initial design phase in FY 2025. $9 million was awarded for the actual construction of the tower.
According to FAA project descriptions, this investment aims to improve airspace safety, modernize the local technology suite, and handle growing aviation demands.
