President Donald Trump endorsed Representative Mike Collins (R-GA) for U.S. Senate just two days before the June 16th runoff election against political outsider Derek Dooley.
What does this endorsement mean for the Collins Campaign? The President’s endorsement gives Rep. Collins a massive boost of confidence as Republican voters prepare to nominate their pick for who to challenge Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
What lawmakers and commentators are saying:
- President Trump on Truth Social: “It is my Great Honor to endorse “MAGA” Mike Collins, a Highly Respected Congressman who has been with me from the very beginning, and is running for the United States Senate in Georgia, a very special place to me, and where we just had a BIG Presidential Election Win with the Most Votes Received by any single Candidate in Georgia’s History, for any Election. Mike is strongly supported by the most Highly Respected MAGA Patriots in Georgia and beyond, and many Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate — He is a WARRIOR and WINNER!”
- Rep. Mike Collins on X: “Thank you [President Trump] for your complete and total endorsement! Georgians deserve a U.S. Senator who will fight for them every day to deliver real results, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. It starts with firing Jon Ossoff in November. Let’s go get it!”
- The Ossoff for Georgia Campaign: “After nearly a year-long, brutally messy audition to win over the White House, Trump puppets Mike Collins and Derek Dooley have made themselves both unelectable and terminally inseparable from the toxic president. The juggernaut Ossoff campaign continues to build incredible momentum to decisively defeat either pro-war, pro-tariff, and pro-cutting health care candidate in November.”
Context: In his official statement, President Trump also praised Rep. Collins for serving his community "brilliantly" and holding steadfast to the "America First" agenda.
He then called Rep. Collins a true "friend, fighter, and warrior" and concluded with his signature "complete and total" endorsement.
Sen. Ossoff’s campaign didn’t take this endorsement too seriously, as can be seen with the statement above.
According to them, this only reinforces the idea that Rep. Collins serves as a puppet for the President and has no real ability to get elected on his own.
