As former football coach Derek Dooley gears up for a Republican runoff race against state Representative Mike Collins for a seat in the Senate, he introduced a pledge to Georgia citizens.
The two will compete for the Republican nomination on June 16.
In a May 24 X post, Dooley laid out a list of promises if he is elected, which he said puts the people of Georgia first before politicians.
Among the promises was a commitment to pursue term limits and no pay for Congress during government shutdowns, saying he will "work tirelessly to force a vote on congressional term limits."
He committed to not accepting any pay during a government shutdown, claiming it rewards politicians for failing to do their jobs.
As I travel around this state, most voters ask how they know I won’t go up to D.C. and turn into the rest of these typical politicians.

"Congress is failing the American people because too many entrenched D.C. politicians put their own political careers or personal interests ahead of the people they were sent to represent," he wrote in the contract. "The Georgia First Contract is my pledge to the people of this state."
Dooley made other personal committments for his first term, including a promise not to trade individual stocks and to hold town halls across the state.
"During my first term in the U.S. Senate, I will hold at least ten town halls across the state to stay connected with the people I represent," he wrote. "Too many politicians go to D.C., settle into the Washington echo chamber, and lose sight of the real world."
