Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) wrote a letter to President Donald Trump, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner, in support of Mighty Hero Homes’ mission to end Veteran homelessness.
For context, Mighty Hero Homes is a home builder based in Georgia and works to supply a first-of-its-kind housing model. This model provides affordable, permanent housing for homeless and at-risk Veterans located on purpose-built Mighty Hero Home bases.
These bases are essentially small communities that allow Veterans to find their way in the world with the support of other Veterans and a community that values their service and sacrifice
Jones's Support
The organization is seeking a special provision of 84 project-based HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers to unlock approximately $20 million in private and institutional funding required to construct the inaugural 84-home Base in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Lt. Gov. Jones wrote in support of this initiative and called the work of Might Hero Homes ‘essential’ for supporting the veteran community.
“Ensuring that Georgia’s veteran community has our utmost support and appreciation is a priority I am honored and humbled to advance,” said Lt. Gov. Jones. “The work of organizations like Mighty Hero Homes is essential to not only building more homes for Veterans, but to ensuring our Veterans can regain stability, dignity, and purpose while accessing workforce development, healthcare coordination, peer mentorship, and other supportive services.”
Lt. Gov. Jones then discussed his own work in opposing Veteran homelessness in Georgia and bolstered the idea that Veterans deserve far more than temporary solutions.
He continued, “In addition to this initiative, this past session, I was proud to secure an appropriation of $7.5 million to eliminate Veteran homelessness in Georgia. Our heroes deserve more than temporary shelter solutions. They deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives with honor. We are forever grateful for their bravery, service, and sacrifice.”
