Georgia congressional Republicans have come out against the newly introduced House Resolution 4393, also known as the DIGNITY Act. Introduced by Representative Maria Salazar (R-FL27), the bill provides legal status and work authorization for undocumented immigrants who have been in the U.S. for over five years, among other provisions.
To balance out its amnesty provision, the bill requires undocumented immigrants to pay a $7,000 fine over seven years, with 1% of their salary diverted to the U.S. treasury. It also provides the means to enhance border security and create better infrastructure for handling asylum claims.
HR 4393 recently came under fire from Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX26), who accused it of instituting a mass amnesty and a ‘great betrayal’ of Republican voters. Rep. Salazar fought back against this characterization, calling it a deliberate "distortion."
However, Georgia Republicans have sided with Congressman Gill, vowing to defeat the bill and any attempt to provide mass amnesty.
Reactions
First, Representative Andrew Clyde (R-GA09) called it a ‘slap in the face’ to the American people, claiming that it's the opposite of what voters asked for.
The “DIGNIDAD Act” is a slap in the face to the American people.
Voters asked for mass deportations, not mass amnesty.

Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA01) claimed that the bill would be "catastrophic" for the country and would only reverse President Trump’s border initiatives.
The Dignity Act would be catastrophic for America if it were enacted into law.
This amnesty bill would open the floodgates to 17 MILLION permanent foreign workers, reversing President Trump’s border security initiatives.
I am a hard NO on the Dignity Act.

Representative Mike Collins (R-GA10) stated that the DIGNITY Act would only reward undocumented immigrants and rip off the American people. He reduced the bill to its amnesty provisions and recommended that it be thrown in the "garbage."
Stop rewarding illegal aliens who reject our culture, values, and laws with citizenship.
If dignity matters so much, give some to the American people who elites have ripped off for decades.
The “Dignity Act” is just amnesty. Throw it in the garbage.
