Lt. Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) joined Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA), Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), and members of the Georgia General Assembly (GGA) in celebrating the signing of House Bills 1000 and 1199

In a statement, Lt. Gov. Jones thanked the Governor, House Speaker, and GGA for their ongoing work to support the people of Georgia. He then contextualized the two bills as part of Georgia’s commitment to fiscal conservatism and responsibility.

“I want to thank Governor Brian Kemp, Speaker Jon Burns, and our friends in the Georgia General Assembly for their ongoing work on behalf of the hardworking people of Georgia,” Lt. Gov. Jones commented. “The two bills signed today provide significant and immediate tax relief and further our commitment to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

The Bills

Combined, the two bills will return nearly $1.2 billion in state income tax refunds to hardworking Georgians and suspend the state motor fuel tax for 60 days.

House Bill 1000 provides a one-time income tax rebate to taxpayers who filed timely returns for 2024 and 2025. It also provides refunds of $250 for a single taxpayer or a married taxpayer filing separately, $375 for a head of household, and $500 for a married couple filing jointly.

The Lt. Governor previously expressed full support for this bill just a few days before its official signing. When the Georgia Senate passed it, he viewed it as direct support for his promise to continue cutting Georgia’s income tax.

House Bill 1199 aligns Georgia's Internal Revenue Code with federal law, reflecting changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The legislation also allows for the suspension of the state motor fuel tax for 60 days, among other provisions.
