State senator and candidate for lieutenant governor Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming) declared that property taxes are "crushing the middle class" during a speech this week.

Sharing an excerpt of the speech on X, Dolezal added a caption, writing, "Young people can't afford homes. Seniors are taxed out of theirs." "The property tax scam is crushing both. Time to take a sledgehammer to it and restore the American Dream."

The key to saving Georgia, he noted in the speech, is bringing back the American Dream.

Current legislation

The declaration comes after the House passed a measure to gradually eliminate property taxes by 2032, and the Senate passed a bill, co-sponsored by Dolezal, to reduce property taxes for some Georgians.

Senate Bill 328, the bill supported by Dolezal in the Senate, would make the statewide base-year homestead exemption mandatory for all political subdivisions, among other tax-related measures.

Current Lt. Gov. Burt Jones supported the bill after listing property tax reform as his No. 1 priority for the 2026 legislative session.
