Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) questioned Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory in a spotlight hearing on election integrity. The hearing focused on President Trump's efforts to assert control over elections amid his claims over the 2020 presidential election.

In Sen. Warnock’s opening statement, he issued scathing criticism of the President and his claims about the 2020 election. He stated that all of these claims are simply to create the pretext for interfering in this year’s midterms.

“The 2020 election has been examined and litigated over and over again, yet the President continues to spread conspiracy theories and outright lies,” Sen. Warnock argued. “Our votes are our voices, and we need to be loud so that they cannot silence us.”

The Hearing

This hearing comes after the FBI’s recent raid of a Fulton County election office, where they collected documents related to the 2020 general election. The documents included ballot images, voter rolls, and voting machine records.

In the exchange with Commissioner Ivory, Sen. Warnock asked about specific details, like who was on the scene and how it played out. According to Ivory, there were multiple peculiarities about the incident.

First, the warrant they served was procedurally incorrect and had to be adjusted. Second, the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, was present, but it was unclear as to why.

The Georgia Senator asked if the FBI had informed Ivory as to where they were taking the evidence and whether they would tamper with it. Ivory answered in the negative but affirmed his worry about how the evidence is likely to be handled.

In his concluding statement, Sen. Warnock reaffirmed his intention to stand against these moves and decried the partisanship around this issue. He stated, “It’s very important for those of us in Congress to stand up against these moves by the President, and by the way, it shouldn’t be a partisan issue. The great thing about America is we have, we have robust arguments, and then the people get to have their say.”
