The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) has opened the application period for the fifth annual Lt. Governors’ STEM Scholarship Program, awarding up to $1,000 for 12 schools in an effort to support STEM-related activities for youth.
Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) has publicly invited all Georgia schools to apply for this program and expressed pride in promoting it. He then recognized the value that comes from STEM programs conducted during early education.
“I encourage Georgia’s schools to apply and join past awardees in Georgia, who have benefited from this Scholarship Program, which supports STEM-related activities in schools,” Lt. Gov. Jones stated. “This is critical to building long-term passion for STEM-related fields, building the workforce of tomorrow.”
The Program and Background
Applications will be accepted until March 6, 2026, with award recipients announced and funded in the spring of 2026. To clarify, the NLGA will award twelve scholarships to twelve schools in twelve different states and territories.
For context, the NLGA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association for the state’s seconds-in-command, and is sponsored by the ACT, whose mission is to assist people in their education and careers.
The ACT is the organization that develops and administers the ACT college readiness assessment. Its CEO, Steve Tapp, also expressed pride in being able to sponsor this program and described STEM education as ‘essential’ for a student’s education.
Tapp added, “We are committed to our work with NLGA to expand access to high-quality STEM learning opportunities so more students can graduate prepared to succeed in a rapidly evolving workforce.”
All public, private, and tribal schools in the 50 states and five U.S. territories are invited to apply at nlga.awardsplatform.com.
The Funding awarded to schools will be used to support STEM-related activities, programming, curriculum, equipment, and other expenses.
