A Gwinnett County Police Officer was killed in the line of duty recently after responding to a call related to ongoing fraud and forgery at a Holiday Inn. After entering the hotel room and engaging in conversation with the suspect, the suspect opened fire on the officers unprovoked.

According to officials, one officer returned fire and struck the suspect. However, the suspect’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and he was later identified as a man named Kevin Andrews. After being treated for his injuries, Andrews was booked into jail and is likely to be charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Officer Pradeep Tamang later died of his wounds at Northside Hospital and had only joined the Gwinnett County Police Department last spring. His partner, Officer David Reed, was shot multiple times and remains in serious, yet stable, condition.

After the shooting, Georgia lawmakers and officials mourned the loss of Officer Tamang and renewed their commitment to the law enforcement community.

Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) expressed his gratitude for the bravery of police officers who consistently put their lives in danger.

Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) shared that he is praying for the families of the officers. He also expressed his gratitude for the dangerous work that officers do every day.

Attorney General Chris Carr also shared that he is praying for the officers. He reminded Georgians to respect law enforcement as they continue to work in the face of unknown danger.
