The race for Georgia’s 18th state Senate district seat is headed to a runoff after neither Republican Steven McNeel nor Democrat Lemario Brown crossed the 50 percent threshold in a recent special election.
In response, Georgia Republicans have rallied via social media to congratulate McNeel for moving forward with a 20-point advantage over Brown. They urged voters to turn out for the runoff election on February 17th and secure a victory for Republicans of the 18th district.
Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) congratulated McNeel on his lead heading into the runoff and urged voters to make this a priority. He also warned that Democrats would be throwing everything they have into this election, so Republicans must do the same.
Congrats, Steven!
The Democrats are throwing everything they have to flip this seat, so if you live in Senate District 18, make a plan to vote early or on Election Day, February 17th for Steven McNeel.
Let’s finish the job! https://t.co/jHTjyUbAFW

Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) congratulated McNeel on his advantage and urged voters from the 18th district to finish the fight. February 17th isn’t too far away, so there isn’t much room for Republicans to take it easy.
Congratulations to Republican Steven McNeel. Voters in Upson, Crawford, Monroe, Peach, Bibb, and Houston Counties — February 17 is coming fast. Less than a month to finish strong and fight for conservative values. Let’s get after it. pic.twitter.com/v5iORdYL2p

Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte (R-31) noted how McNeel's victory was the product of Republican unity and a real initiative to win decisively. Anavitarte urged Republicans to keep this momentum going, reminding them that the Democrats will use every possible advantage they can get.
Tonight Republicans were unified across middle Georgia and had an outstanding GOTV, decisively showing up and finishing 20 points ahead of the Democrat. The Democrats brought in national politicians, celebrities and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars. In round two, we will do… https://t.co/IdceysuUGZ
