Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) has announced his full support for the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, a bill recently passed by the House of Representatives, which provides American citizens with more affordable health care coverage.
Also known as House Resolution (HR) 6703, the bill reduces healthcare costs by implementing several reforms that affect options and premiums. It first expands access to Association Health Plans by allowing employers to collaborate across industries to purchase affordable, high-quality coverage.
The bill then ensures that small and mid-sized employers can protect themselves from catastrophic claims by clarifying that stop-loss insurance is not “health insurance coverage.” This would allow small businesses to offer their employees more tailored, affordable care.
HR 6703 also codifies and strengthens rules allowing employers to offer defined contributions for employees to purchase their own coverage and permits employees to pay premiums pre-tax.
Rep. Buddy Carter issued a lengthy statement on the bill, expressing full support for HR 6703 and lamenting the state of health care in the country. He criticized Democrats like Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) for their approach of handouts and avoiding the Affordable Care Act.
“Liberal politicians like Jon Ossoff want to continue giving handouts to Big Insurance and illegal immigrants, making your health outcomes worse, instead of addressing the heart of the problem, which is that the UnAffordable Care Act isn’t working,” Carter stated. “Democrats spent years dismantling our health care system and causing an affordability crisis.”
Carter applauded his fellow House Republicans for initiating the effort, adding that he looks forward to the progress that can be made. To him, this issue is about affordability, and that’s what this bill attempts to address.
“With this vote, House Republicans began the hard work of undoing more than a decade of harm to patients nationwide,” Carter expressed. “By driving down health insurance premiums, increasing pharmacy benefit manager transparency, and expanding affordable health care options, we are ensuring that American citizens have access to the high-quality health care they deserve at a rate they can afford.”
