Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) has released a statement after Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) voted against a procedural measure that would have allowed for consideration of a bill to fund the Department of War during the lapse in appropriations.

Carter commented that “Jon Ossoff keeps finding new ways to turn his back on the military community – it is truly astounding. From using our veterans as political pawns to refusing to fund the Department of War, Georgia’s servicemembers deserve better than someone who willingly trades their paychecks for health care for illegal immigrants.”

In addition to voting against cloture on a full-year Department of War spending bill, Ossoff has voted ten times against a clean continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21st.

Carter has expressed his frustration with Ossoff many times on social media as a vote to end the government shutdown persists.

He first pointed out how the shutdown negatively impacts Georgia farmers, blaming Ossoff for the hold-up.

For context, farmers in Georgia are expecting to receive an aid package from the next spending bill, but the government has yet to allocate those funds.

When Ossoff voted against considering the defense package, Carter blamed him personally for the disruption directly impacting a military base known as Hunter Army Airfield.

Carter has also pointed to the hypocrisy of Ossoff’s positions, comparing his statements from earlier this year to his actions of recent weeks.
