The Senate finally passed the One Big, Beautiful Bill after a marathon voting session lasting over twenty-four hours. President Donald Trump expects to see the bill on his desk by July 4th, so the House is eager to pass it as soon as possible.ย
Senate Democrats tried their best to amend the bill and mitigate some of its more controversial provisions. Unfortunately for them, all of their amendments were blocked by the Republicans.
The final vote ended up in a 50-50 tie, and Vice President JD Vance broke it in favor of passing the bill through. Senate Democrats have not taken this well, reacting with outrage on X.
Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) called the bill a โbetrayal,โ claiming that Republicans sold out in favor of big corporations.ย
Sen. Warnock stated, โThis is a big, ugly betrayal. Republican politicians in Washington just voted to dismantle Obamacare & spike your health insurance bill. Theyโre taking from you to pay for another tax break for big corporations.โ
Sen. Jon Ossoff (D) called the bill a โdisaster,โ and reiterated its negative effects on Georgia. He then called on Georgia Republicans to vote against it in the House.
Sen. Ossoff stated, โI call upon Republicans in Georgia's House delegation to put GEORGIA ahead of loyalty to the President. Oppose this bill!โย
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) warned his Republican colleagues that this bill would haunt them in the years to come. He seems to think that this bill and its consequences will be used in the midterm elections to oust Republicans from their seats.
Sen. Schumer commented, โAmericans will see the damage done as hospitals close, as people are laid off, as costs go up, and as the debt increases. Democrats will make sure Americans remember the betrayal that took place today.โ
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) posted a video of herself talking about the bill, where she expressed frustration and slight optimism. Like Schumer, she also predicted that the Republicans would face negative consequences for passing it.ย
Sen. Warren commented, โAfter 26 hours of fighting on the Senate floor, Republicans voted to rip health care from millions of people and let little babies go hungry. And they cheered. I'm angry. You should be too. But this fight isn't over.โ
