Attorney General Chris Carr has expressed his intention to crack down on different crimes. Gangs, scams, and AI are Carr’s new targets after recent developments involving all three.

First, a new scam text has been sent to a large number of Georgians. The text originates from a scammer who claims to be from the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles.

The scammer claims that the person has an outstanding traffic ticket that needs to be paid off by a certain date. If the person doesn’t comply by that certain date, they will be penalized in five different ways.

The scammer claims that prosecution, vehicle suspension, and an increased fine are likely to happen. AG Carr openly warned about this text on X and warned Georgians not to click on any of the links sent.

Carr also stated, “Georgians, please be aware of this latest fake text from scammers posing as the 'Georgia State DMV.’ Remember, the real (Georgia Department of Driver Services) will NOT text you to request payment for legitimate citations.”

Second, Carr has joined with other attorneys general to demand answers from Meta. The worry is that its AI program may cater to pedophiles and expose minors to sexual content.

According to reports, Meta allows minors to participate in sexually explicit role play on Facebook and Instagram. On these platforms, users can interact with AI programs that impersonate certain celebrities.

The attorneys general are demanding answers from Meta on whether they intentionally loosened its safeguards around their AI programs. They also want to know if Meta intends to halt this kind of activity.

Finally, AG Carr plans on expanding the focus of the Georgia Gang Unit to Savannah. This is a response to increased gang activity in the area.

Carr responded to a video on X depicting violent gang activity. In the video, a shooting occurs, and you can see people fleeing for safety.

Carr declared in response, “This is why we’re expanding our Gang Unit to include a new regional prosecutor in Savannah. All Georgians deserve to be safe, and violent criminals will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
