Gov. Brian Kemp recently announced that he would not run for Senate after his term. This has opened up a spot for many Georgia Republicans to fill in. Rep. Buddy Carter is the first to put his name forward as a GOP candidate officially.

Buddy Carter launched his campaign with a TV ad describing him as a “MAGA Warrior.” His campaign appears to focus on his loyalty to the President and his agenda.

The discussion of which Republican will run against Ossoff has only just begun. It was assumed for a long time that Kemp would take up the challenge. With his strong reputation as governor and high voter turnout, he was thought to be a strong contender.

Now that he has bowed out, the opportunity has opened up for other GOP figures. Carter is the first to pull the trigger, just days after Kemp’s announcement.

Many potential candidates waited to see Kemp’s decision, so there should be more campaign announcements to come.

Carter reacted to Kemp’s decision on X with support and gratitude. He commended him for his steadfast commitment to putting Georgians first.

Carter stated, “Thank you, Governor Kemp, for your years of friendship and dedicated service to the state of Georgia. You’ve made us proud and will continue to do so in your next endeavors.”

Carter also hinted at his own run in this post. He stated, “Georgians voted for Donald Trump overwhelmingly in November and deserve someone who is going to support him, and the will of the people, in the Senate.”
