Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been wrapped up in yet another controversy. This time, the scandal is almost the same. It is alleged that more classified information has been leaked under his watch.
In another unclassified Signal group chat, information related to strikes against the Houthis was leaked. Apparently, Hegseth’s family members had access to the chat and were able to view the information.
This controversy has riled up congressional lawmakers and divided them along party lines. The Republicans are largely supportive of Hegseth, while the Democrats largely criticize him.
To start, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) has responded to an article from NPR covering the situation. The article reported that Hegseth might be replaced because of this recent scandal.
Greene responded with derision claiming that the outlet was publishing nothing but falsehood.
Green stated on X, “NPR is lying!! Another reason we must completely defund NPR! Pete Hegseth is not being replaced. He’s doing a GREAT job as Secretary of Defense!”
Rep. Andre Clyde (R) also came to Hegseth’s defense on X. Clyde commented that the recent controversy is a result of deep state interference. He went on to renew his support for the Defense Secretary
Clyde stated, “The Deep State is desperately trying to take down and smear (Pete Hegseth) because they despise his efforts to restore our military and deliver much-needed change to the Pentagon. I stand strongly behind Secretary Hegseth.”
On the other side, Senator Raphael Warnock (D) strongly derided Hegseth on X. Warnock commented by referencing the last official statement he made regarding the other Signal chat leak.
In that statement, Warnock reiterated his belief that Hegseth was vastly underqualified for the role. By referencing that statement, Warnock reiterated that this kind of behavior puts Georgian service members at risk.
Warnock stated, “Secretary Hegseth continues to demonstrate that he is not up to the task of leading our armed forces. Every day it becomes more clear that his leadership puts Georgia servicemembers at risk and threatens all of our safety.”
