The House of Representatives recently passed two bills focused on restricting court injunctions and preserving voter integrity. Lawmakers are split along party lines regarding the effectiveness of these bills. Georgia lawmakers are especially divided.
Starting with the SAVE act, Georgia Republicans came out strongly in favor of it. Representative Mike Collins (R) expressed his support for the bill as a way to protect the integrity of our elections.
Collins stated, “I just voted YES on the SAVE Act to stop illegal aliens from infiltrating American elections. Americans' voice at the ballot box is sacred. I'm proud to defend the integrity of our elections and restore trust in our system.”
Representative Rick McCormick (R) concurred with this sentiment. He commented on how the bill also requires states to clean up their voter rolls.
McCormick stated, “This critical bill helps protect our elections by preventing non-citizens from voting, strengthening ID verification, and requiring states to clean up voter rolls. Let’s continue to fight to safeguard our Republic.”
Even Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr expressed his support for the SAVE Act. He noted how the law is based on common sense and should have already been adopted.
Carr stated, “Last year, we stood with 21 AGs in urging Congress to pass the SAVE Act. In Georgia, it’s illegal for noncitizens to vote. It’s a commonsense approach that should be implemented nationwide.”
As for the No Rogue Rulings Act, Georgia lawmakers are more divided. Georgia Republicans showed their support but not as fervently. Representative Andrew Clyde (R) voted for the bill and commented how it would prevent abuse of power from district judges.
Clyde stated, “A single rogue judge should NOT have the authority to unilaterally impose nationwide injunctions to obstruct President Trump’s agenda.”
Representative Hank Johnson (D) came out strongly against the bill on X. He stated how this bill would actually interfere with the checks and balances system.
Johnson stated, “It is essential to our democracy that the Courts can serve as a check on a President that is trampling people’s rights, which this President is famous for. We cannot allow for justice to be so delayed that it is denied.”
