It was not a very busy day today at the House of Representatives as no legislation was considered. The only major thing to pass was a censure of Representative Al Green (D) of Texas for disrupting the State of the Union address.ย

Instead, the House heard two special order speeches from Speaker Mike Johnson (R). The first was a notification from President Trump (R) that a national emergency had been declared in order to halt the International Criminal Courtโ€™s (ICC) efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute persons in America or Israel.ย

The President declared it to be a blatant case of lawfare and insists that these investigations should not be assisted. This special order was referred to the Committees of Foreign Affairs and the Judiciary.ย

After this, Speaker Mike Johnson delivered the second message where the President declared the expansion of another national emergency declared on January 20th. This one is concerned with the synthetic opioid supply chains located in China and the flow of illicit drugs from both the southern and northern borders.ย

This special order was referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. After the special orders were relayed, the House adjourned and will resume its operations on March 10th.
