State Senator Clint Dixon (R-GA) has been appointed by Lt. Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on State and Local Governmental Operations.
State Sen. Dixon ran unopposed in his latest election attempt, securing District 45 (which includes portions of Barrow and Gwinnett County) for the Georgia GOP.
The Peach State state senator first thanked Lt. Governor Jones for his selection to the committee.
"I am grateful to be appointed as Chairman of the Senate Committee on State and Local Governmental Operations. I want to thank Lt. Governor Burt Jones for entrusting me with this important responsibility,” said State Sen. Dixon.
He continued, sharing his previous experience in county planning delegations and their and necessary and consequential impact on local communities.
“Having served on the Gwinnett County Planning Commission and the Water and Sewer Authority, I understand state and local government's critical role in shaping the communities where we live and work,” said Dixon. “Our committee will work to guarantee that our state and local governments are effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all Georgia citizens."
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on State and Local Governmental Operations, Sen. Dixon serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation, Secretary of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, an Ex-Officio member of the Senate Committees on Economic Development and Tourism and Education and Youth and a member of the Senate Committees on Rules and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC), per the Georgia State Senate Press Office.
As for the State of Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp (R) shared during his recent State of the State Address that over $66 million in private sector investments has aided the Peach State in creating over 140,000 new jobs since 2019.
Kemp provided some optimism concerning the continued success of these investments.
“As a result of these investments, by 2035 we will have saved more than 1 billion dollars from delay and crash reduction and saved more than 4 billion dollars by 2050. Additionally, Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the nation for our infrastructure by CNBC and ranked No. 1 state for bridge quality by ConsumerAffairs,” Gov. Kemp said.
Kemp could be eyeing a 2026 senatorial bid to challenge incumbent Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
