House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) recently announced the creation of the 2026 House Blue-Ribbon Study Committees. These Committees will work throughout the interim to gather the facts and hear from citizens, experts, and stakeholders on key policy areas impacting Georgia.
Speaker Burns commented on the purpose of these committees and affirmed the Georgia House's intent to remain focused. While not in session, state representatives will be working through policy ideas and possible opportunities for the state to grow.
“The Georgia House has been and will continue to be laser-focused on delivering results on the issues that matter most to our fellow Georgians,” said Speaker Burns. “The creation of the 2026 House Blue-Ribbon Study Committees reflects our ongoing commitment to pursuing common-sense policy solutions to the challenges and opportunities that will shape Georgia’s future success.”
The Committees
There are seven Blue-Ribbon Study Committees in total, which focus on issues such as taxation, healthcare, and infrastructure.
First is the Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Community Health and Healthcare Oversight. This committee will evaluate Georgia’s overall healthcare landscape and determine how to improve access, strengthen patient protections, and identify practical policy solutions across the state.
Second is the Study Committee on Transportation Infrastructure and Vehicle Regulation. This committee will evaluate Georgia’s transportation networks and regulations to streamline utility right-of-way coordination, control costs, and strengthen safety statewide.
Next is the Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting. This committee will evaluate local funding mechanisms to strengthen transparency, ensure fairness, and increase the fiscal accountability of local governments.
There are also two other committees on litigation and education, with the first being the Study Committee on Criminal Post-Conviction Litigation. The second is the Study Committee on Education Performance Metrics and Workforce Stability.
The final two committees are focused on Georgia’s youth. First is the Study Committee on Youth Exposure to Kratom and Retail-Available Substances, and the second is the Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth.
