Tuesday's special election to pick Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene's replacement for the remainder of her term after her resignation in January ended in a runoff after none of the candidates -- over a dozen -- received over 50% of the vote.
A Democratic candidate, however, snagged one of the two top spots for the November general election.
Republican Clayton Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris, the two candidates who received the most votes, will face each other in a runoff election scheduled for April 7.
Fuller, a former district attorney, advanced to the top of the crowded Republican field of candidates after recieving President Donald Trump's endorsement.
With almost 90% of the votes counted, Harris is in the lead with around 37% of the vote, compared to 35% held by Fuller, according to a poll published by The New York Times.
However, Trump won the district in the presidential election by a wide margin, making Fuller the favorite to win the runoff in the absence of the other Republican candidates who crowded Tuesday's election.
Republican Colton Moore trails with a little over 12% of the vote. A few hours before the polls closed, Moore urged Georgians to head to the polls and vote for him.
Here’s the truth…
If you don’t vote for me before 7 PM, we will lose Congress. That means:
❌ President Trump will be impeached
❌ No mass deportations
❌ Higher taxes to fund fraud
❌ Radical Democrats control our governmentThere’s still time to help me STOP the… pic.twitter.com/eAqEwW332p
