Representative Mike Collins (GA-10) recently introduced the Diesel Truck Liberation Act, legislation designed to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from further "criminalizing" farmers and truckers through federal emission mandates.
Rep. Collins praised the work of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and expressed pride in being able to contribute. To him, this is about putting the working class first and implementing common-sense policy.
“American truckers and farmers are the backbone of this nation, but the EPA has treated them like criminals for maintaining their own equipment,” said Rep. Collins. “The Diesel Truck Liberation Act codifies the work of [Zeldin] to free farmers and truckers from the radical federal emissions mandates of past Administrations and end the bureaucrats’ war on the working class.”
The Bill and Its Context
The bill addressed Federal agencies like the EPA piling emission mandates onto diesel trucks and equipment in the name of environmental stewardship. Truckers and farmers who cannot afford the required updates are forced to sideline their vehicles, leave the business altogether, face penalties, or even go to jail.
The Diesel Truck Liberation Act will directly confront this.
First, it will prevent federal agencies from requiring manufacturers to install emissions control devices or onboard diagnostic systems.
Second, it will remove the EPA’s authority to enforce Clean Air Act requirements concerning vehicle emission controls.
Third, it will protect individuals prosecuted under federal law for tampering with or improving emissions equipment.
Finally, the bill codifies the work of Rep. Collins and Administrator Zeldin to ensure that no matter who is in the White House, truckers and farmers are protected.
In spearheading this effort, Rep. Collins was joined by House cosponsors, including Representatives Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Barry Moore (AL-01), Dave Taylor (OH-02), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Mike Ezell (MS-04), and Tony Wied (WI-08).
I am proud to introduce the Diesel Truck Liberation Act to free farmers and truckers from EPA emissions controls.
This bill codifies @EPALeeZeldin’s work to protect the working class from costly government overreach.
No more prosecutions for keeping good trucks on the road.…
