Over the weekend, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military initiated major combat operations against the Iranian regime and its military installations. Known as Operation Epic Fury, this set of attacks comes after weeks of stalled negotiations and escalating threats over Iran's nuclear program.

The President’s move has divided congressional lawmakers, generating partisan support and criticism. Republicans overwhelmingly support the initiative, while Democrats have overwhelmingly criticized it.

Georgia Democrats are no different and have all called for an immediate vote from Congress on a War Powers Resolution. To them, President Trump has acted beyond his authority and must be checked as soon as possible.

Reactions

Representative Lucy McBath (D-GA06) first shared her sympathies with the men and women who swore service to our country as they enter an uncertain time. She then called for the Trump Administration to be held accountable.

Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA04) had nothing but scathing criticism, stating this attack on Iran also functioned as an attack on the Constitution.

Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) issued a lengthy statement, calling for a War Powers Resolution and denouncing President Trump for initiating another war for regime change despite his campaign promises.

Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) also issued a lengthy statement in which he called the operations a dramatic and deadly escalation. He joined the call for Congress to intervene and reassert its authority over the power to declare war.
