Outsider candidate for U.S. Senate Derek Dooley unveiled “The Georgia First Contract,” a five-part pledge to the people of Georgia that will guide his service in the U.S. Senate.
When commenting on the pledge, Dooley lamented the state of Congress and Georgia’s senators, especially. To him, Senators Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) are entirely concerned with serving themselves and have failed to properly work for Georgians.
“Georgians deserve better, and that is why I am running for the U.S. Senate. This isn’t a list of empty promises, but a clear set of standards that will guide every vote I cast and decision I make, and hold me accountable every single day,” Dooley commented. “Unlike the politicians in D.C., I’ll never forget that I work for the people of Georgia.”
The Pledge
The first part of Dooley’s pledge is to put the interests of Georgia first and foremost. This means that every action he takes as senator will be based on whether it benefits the country or the state.
Second, Dooley commits to serving no more than two terms as senator. This is based on his belief in term limits, and he pledges to pursue a vote in Congress on the matter. This pledge is consistent with his stance on careerism and its negative effects on the integrity of the congressional process.
Third, Dooley pledges not to trade individual stocks or digital assets or profit from information, access, or influence that comes with holding elected office. In fact, he pledges to fight to ban those trades for members of both the House and Senate, their spouses, and senior staff.
Fourth, Dooley pledges to refuse his pay during a government shutdown. He will also support reforms to prevent government shutdowns and instead punish politicians who fail to submit budgets on time.
Finally, the outsider candidate pledges to hold at least ten town halls across the state of Georgia. This way, he can stay connected to his constituents regardless of whether they voted for him.
Typical politicians go up to D.C and forget they aren’t the boss. The American people are.
