In the wake of recent violent incidents involving the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and leftist protesters in Minneapolis, Georgia Democrats have called for ICE to be heavily restrained and even completely defunded.

They’ve also heavily criticized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Secretary Kristi Noem, calling for her impeachment and defunding the department.

The rhetoric from Democrats in general has escalated after the recent shooting between ICE and a protester named Alex Pretti. While the DHS views ICE as acting within its authority, Democrats argue the agency as being out of control.

First, Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA04) outright called for the abolition of ICE and for every agent involved in Pretti’s death to be held accountable.

Representative Nikema Williams (D-GA05) called the incident with Pretti an ‘execution,’ and committed to voting against DHS funding. She also called for the dismantling of ICE as a whole and the impeachment of Secretary Noem.

Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) also committed to voting against DHS funding and claimed that America is ‘losing its humanity’ in the wake of ICE activity. He further stated that this is a defining moment for the country, and the courage to say ‘no’ is essential.

Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) accused ICE and the DHS of violating civil liberties and detaining people without probable cause. He called for a bipartisan effort to confront the anarchy and protect the Constitution.
