The House of Representatives has passed Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) HR 3492, also known as the Protect Children’s Innocence Act. This bill was introduced to the House in May, and it is the first notable attempt to codify one of President Donald Trump’s executive orders.
HR 3492 establishes federal criminal offenses for providing gender-affirming care to minors, and changes the existing federal criminal offense that prohibits female genital mutilation (FGM) and related conduct.
The bill makes it a federal crime to knowingly perform or attempt to perform procedures or provide medications (hormonal treatments) to a minor for the purpose of changing their body to correspond to a sex that differs from their biological sex.
A violation is punishable by a fine, a prison term of up to 10 years, or both, and HR 3492 prohibits the arrest or prosecution of an individual who undergoes gender-affirming procedures or medications.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke on the House floor to advocate for the passage of this bill, highlighting the dangers of gender-affirming care with photo evidence of mastectomy victims.
Protecting children is not optional, it’s our duty.
Today on the House floor, I spoke for the voiceless: America’s kids.
Children are not old enough to vote, drive, or get a tattoo and they are certainly not old enough to be chemically castrated or permanently mutilated!!!… pic.twitter.com/LGR1XE1Usa
