Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R-GA) has announced his support for the recommendations of the Senate Study Committee on Additional Services and Resources for Transition Age Youth in Foster Care. These recommendations will be considered during the 2026 Legislative Session.

The Senate Study Committee on Additional Services and Resources for Transition Age Youth in Foster Care was prioritized by Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and established by Senate Resolution 310. They have also recently convened to deliver recommendations on housing, education, social services, labor, and future initiatives.

First, the committee recommended meeting with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to determine ways to enhance participation in the Foster Youth program. They then encouraged statewide involvement in transitioning foster youth into the Technical College and University Systems of Georgia.

The committee recommended meeting with the Technical College System about employment issues facing students and graduates in Georgia. They also recommended continuing pilot programs that screen foster youth for autism spectrum disorder.

Finally, the committee recommended improving the utilization and awareness of the Fostering Success Tax Credit by encouraging all transition-age youth stakeholders to promote the Foster Program.

Jones took credit for the creation of this study committee and declared that his commitment to Georgia’s children is unwavering. He also called these recommendations ‘critical’ and applauded the efforts of Chairwoman Kay Kirkpatrick (R-Cobb) and other members.

“I want to commend Chairwoman Kirkpatrick, the members, presenters and foster care youth who worked tirelessly on this committee to bring forward these critical recommendations,” Jones stated. “Our state will continue to lead the way, while working with President Trump’s Administration, to ensure we are delivering on behalf of Georgia’s most vulnerable – our foster care children and families.”
