Georgia Republicans from the House of Representatives have joined forces to call on Senators Jon Ossoff (D) and Raphael Warnock (D) to end the government shutdown. In a letter sent to the Senators, they urged them to set aside partisan politics and reopen the government by passing House Resolution (HR) 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2026.
The letter was signed and endorsed by Representatives Rich McCormick (R), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R), Buddy Carter (R), Mike Collins (R), Andrew Clyde (R), and Brian Jack (R). This effort has been paired with repeated call-out efforts on X by these representatives, urging the Senators to take action.
Rep. Rich McCormick has been heavily critical about calling out Senators Ossoff and Warnock in the past couple of days.
Georgians should NEVER be used as political pawns. That's why my Georgia GOP colleagues and I wrote a letter to @SenatorWarnock and @SenOssoff urging them to open the government back up and stop hurting Georgia families, veterans, service members, and farmers.…

Rep. Mike Collins went further, accusing the Senators of holding the military and essential services hostage for the sake of illegal immigrants.
Reminder: House Republicans passed a clean government funding bill weeks ago. We voted to pay our troops and air traffic controllers. We voted to keep the government open. Senate Democrats, including @SenOssoff and @SenatorWarnock, are holding our military and essential services…

In the letter, the representatives appeal to the effects of the shutdown on Georgia, highlighting the support that Georgians desperately need.
They expressed that “this inaction has real consequences for Georgia families and hardworking Americans," noting that "food assistance, veterans' benefits, and vital support for women and children have been disrupted, while federal employees and service members now face uncertainty over their paychecks and livelihood.”
The Georgia Republicans also claim that this shutdown was entirely avoidable and that HR 5371 is the very compromise that Senate Democrats demand.
“To have a civil debate regarding public policy, we must first work together to reopen our government and keep essential services afloat," they argue. "The refusal to vote for such commonsense legislation and instead hold Georgia residents hostage is contrary to the very positions that you have claimed for the past four years.”
