Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (R) provided remarks at the third meeting of the Georgia Senate Special Committee on Eliminating Georgia’s Income Tax. He also met with local business leaders and constituents in Gainesville, Georgia.

The meeting was held at a local restaurant as a gesture to remind Georgians of the committee's focus. The committee represents the state’s earnest attempt to relieve Georgians of tax burdens, allowing them to live with greater financial prosperity.

In his remarks, the Lieutenant Governor first commented on his campaign for Governor and the many state senators running for his current position. He then thanked all of the senators present and remarked on the bipartisan makeup of the committee.

Jones reminded the committee that its purpose is to responsibly and methodically complete the process. He acknowledged that this idea isn’t revolutionary, but it doesn’t have to be, and the goal remains the same: reduce the cost of living for Georgians.

Jones commented on this issue and the significance of making Georgia a more accessible and affordable state. This is a flagship issue for the Lieutenant Governor, so he takes it seriously.

“To every Georgian working paycheck to paycheck, we hear you,” Jones stated. “When we take money out of your paychecks through the state income tax, it makes it harder for you to get ahead.”

“Georgia is strong because of the people who work hard every day, not because of the government taking more of your paycheck,” Jones continued. “Eliminating the state income tax is about giving families breathing room and letting Georgians keep more of the money they work hard to earn. Eliminating the income tax would mean that you keep more of what you earn. You earned it. You should keep it.”
