Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) has issued another statement regarding the ongoing government shutdown, blaming Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) for the ordeal. Representative called it the ‘Ossoff-Schumer Shutdown,’ claiming that it will continue to harm Georgians the longer it goes on.

Carter believes that Ossoff can vote at any time to end the shutdown, but instead, he has chosen to go along with Schumer and his demands. To Carter, it’s very simple. Senate Democrats have chosen to prioritize illegal immigrants over American citizens.

If the shutdown lasts for a month, Georgia is expected to lose $2 billion, and 1,400 workers are expected to lose their jobs. Every statewide industry is touched by the shutdown because so many companies receive subsidies so they can afford to hire more people.

As well, there are an estimated 100,000 federal employees in Georgia who have been working without pay and have no guarantee when they can see their next paycheck.

The same can be said for servicemembers who were lucky to receive their paychecks on October 15th, thanks to President Donald Trump. Carter argues that it’s unbelievable that a Senator would prioritize the benefits of illegal immigrants over citizens and servicemembers.

“They’re spitting in the face of our military servicemembers. It’s un-American, indefensible, and flat out disgraceful. Unfortunately, those same three words can be used to describe Ossoff’s repeated votes to keep the government closed,” he expressed.

Carter pointed out that in the past, Ossoff appealed to a sense of bipartisanship when attempting to rally support for federal funding bills. However, Carter argues that Ossoff has sacrificed bipartisanship by repeatedly voting against Republican proposals.

Carter concluded by sharing that “it’s not about health care for U.S. citizens. It’s about ‘sticking it’ to Trump, and in the process, ‘sticking it’ to the American people." "Ossoff and Schumer are trying to out anti-Trump AOC, and they don’t care how many Georgians they stomp on in the process.”
