Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA), a pharmacist by trade, has introduced a resolution recognizing October 2025 as ‘American Pharmacists Month,’ honoring the hardworking healthcare professionals many communities rely on to provide safe, accessible, affordable, and beneficial patient care.

The resolution is only two pages long, but praises pharmacists for the critical work they do in keeping America safe and healthy. It acknowledges how pharmacists are the best-positioned healthcare providers to ensure optimal medical outcomes and proper medical treatment.

According to the bill, there are over 330,000 licensed pharmacists, 400,000 pharmacy technicians, and 47,000 student pharmacists providing care throughout the country.

Carter emphasized the importance of recognizing pharmacists, thanking them for their tireless work and honorable service to the country.

“The work that pharmacists do is vital to the health of not only our patients and communities, but also our entire system of care. It is crucial that we give them the support and recognition they deserve, and this resolution is a step toward fulfilling that duty,” Carter stated.

The cosponsor of this bill, Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), is also a pharmacist by trade, and she drew on her own experience to explain why this bill is so important.

“As a pharmacist, I know firsthand how often patients rely on their local pharmacy for immunizations, medication management, chronic disease counseling, and trusted advice close to home,” Harshbarger stated. “Working alongside Congressman Buddy Carter, I am proud to honor the millions of pharmacy team members whose commitment improves outcomes and expands access to care for families across America.”

The resolution also enjoys support from key stakeholders, including pharmacists and pharmacy owners.

For example, Steven C. Anderson, the President and CEO of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, praised the bill for its recognition, but urged Congress to go further with its reforms.

“During American Pharmacists Month, we celebrate the pharmacists who care for our communities every day — delivering medication counseling, necessary services, chronic disease support, and trusted guidance in neighborhoods across America,” Andersen stated. “To unlock the full value pharmacists provide, we urge policymakers to enhance Americans' access to pharmacist services and to enact meaningful PBM reform.”
